How does Loyltworks guarantee zero duplicate QR codes?
Loyltworks™ uses a cryptographic serialisation engine, each QR is generated from a unique combination of Product ID + Batch ID + Sequence Number + Timestamp + Secret Salt, hashed through a collision-resistant SHA-3 algorithm. Every generated code is registered in a centralised, append-only code registry before printing. Before any code clears for printing, it is checked against the registry, a code only prints if it has never existed before. Post-print, batches are reconciled against generation records. Across hundreds of millions of codes generated, Loyltworks™ has maintained a zero duplicate case history.
Yes, this is a core feature. Products can be sent to market with QR codes in "Pre-Active" status, the code is on the pack but will return an invalid result if scanned. When a batch is dispatched, the brand admin (or it can be automated on dispatch order creation) activates the entire batch in one operation. All codes in that batch go live simultaneously, scans return genuine, loyalty points are activated, and supply chain tracking begins. This means QR codes are printed during production but not "live" until the product actually leaves the warehouse.
Any QR code scanner works, including the native camera app on iOS and Android (no app download required). When scanned, the native camera opens a URL (or branded short link) that loads the Loyltworks™ validation page in the browser. For first-time loyalty earners, the page prompts mobile number entry for account creation or login. For returning members, their account is matched automatically and points are credited. The Loyltworks™ app provides a richer experience (full points dashboard, redemption catalogue) but is not required for the initial scan-to-earn action.
When a scan fails any of the 5 validation checks, the counterfeit flag fires in real time. The following happens simultaneously: (1) The scanner sees a warning on their screen, "This product may not be genuine. Do not use. Contact [brand helpline]." (2) The brand's designated security contact receives an SMS and email alert within seconds with scan location, device details, and code history. (3) The code is automatically elevated to "Flagged" status, subsequent scans trigger stronger warnings. (4) If configured, the local field team or brand territory manager receives a task to investigate. (5) A counterfeit report entry is created in the brand's security dashboard for regulatory documentation.
